What is FARA?
Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA) is a debilitating neuro-muscular disease that is caused by a lack of energy production that our cells need for proper function and survival. Over time, FA robs individuals of muscle coordination eventually leading to life altering loss of mobility, energy, speech, and hearing. FA also presents serious risk of diabetes and life shortening cardiac disease. USF Ataxia Research Center has partnered with FARA to aggressively advance research into the causes, treatment and ultimate eradication of this devastating condition.
